I’ve seen Florence being called the worst flood in East Coast history. I imagine that for sheer amount of land covered with water, that’s true. It might wind up being one of the most expensive. But I’m glad that the death tolls haven’t come anywhere near the worst ones.
So far there seem to be 33 fatalities. Katrina was 1,833. Imagining a storm the size of Florence with Katrina-force winds, or hitting a city the size of New Orleans or bigger, gives me chills
The flooding got me thinking about a major disaster that’s been pretty much forgotten, outside of Pennsylvania- the Johnstown Flood. https://t.co/7nO25zE2ah
