re: the fires/smoke. a lot of my friends have been reflecting on the deep denial lots of folks are in, just going around doing normal ass things like this is an acceptable way to live (eating outdoors, jogging, etc), and the level of alienation from one's body that requires
and it just strikes me that normatively "healthy" people are so fucking unprepared for shit like this, which will only become more common. we could easily squander a shitload of both quantity and quality of life by following their example.
by contrast, disabled folks/folks with chronic illness are the first to know the right level of alarm, the appropriate protection/harm reduction measures to take. they know this because they fucking fought to know it, usually w/o a goddamn lick of support from our ableist society
