12. In other words, we need to be able to call out the major demographic in this country that is in fact not participating in democracy in good faith, that rejects pluralism--which is essential to democracy. That defines "religious freedom" as "freedom" for them to discriminate.
13. And this is where #Exvangelical voices come in. We are uniquely placed to explain and criticize right-wing, mostly white evangelical subculture, if only the movers and shakes in the American press were willing to listen. And they are starting to be.
14. Hitherto, the major media outlets have mostly been willing to let white evangelicals put their best foot forward and control their own narrative. The extremism that is pervasive, and that many of us have been trying to expose for years, was written off as "fringe."
